3-D Evaluation of temporary skeletal anchorage sites in the maxilla
2021
Background The selection of temporary anchorage device (TAD) site can be a challenging task since one should not only consider the 2-D distances between roots, but also the entire 3-D space. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the posterior maxillary region areas available for the insertion of temporary anchorage devices in reconstructed images from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and Methods Sample consisted of 72 patients with indication for orthodontic treatment, grouped into three distinct age groups: 11 to 14 years (age group 1), 15 to 19 years (age group 2) and aged 20 years or older (age group 3), which were further subdivided as to the type of malocclusion (An…
Tridimensional assessment of the dental follicle dimensions of impacted mandibular third molars using cone-beam CT
2017
Background The present study was performed to compare follicle dimensions of impacted mandibular third molar (IMTM) with different impaction angulations using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and Methods Forty-nine individuals with IMTM (24 male, 25 female) were selected. Their age range was 25-55 years. The sample was divided into three IMTM groups either vertical (n=16), mesioangular (n=18) or horizontal (n=15) position based on Winter's classification (the angle between the longitudinal axis of the second and third molars). Follicular spaces (FS) from available CBCT imaging were measured from the midpoint of the teeth's crown in several dimensions (mesial, distal, occlusal,…
Differences between panoramic and Cone Beam-CT in the surgical evaluation of lower third molars
2017
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability to identify the contiguity between the root of the mandibular third molar and the mandibular canal (MC) in panoramic radiographs compared with Cone Beam-CT. Material and methods Panoramic radiographs of 326 third molars and CBCT radiographs of 86 cases indicated for surgery and considered at risk were evaluated. The following signs were assessed in panoramic radiographs as risk factors: radiolucent band, loss of MC border, change in MC direction, MC narrowing, root narrowing, root deviation, bifid apex, superimposition, and contact between the root third molar and the MC. Results Radiographic signs associated with absence of MC co…

Measurement of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for exclusive B decays to charmonium
2005
We report measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/Psi, Psi(2S) and Chi_c1, and the light meson is either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
Au-PVA Nanocomposite Negative Resist for One-Step Three-Dimensional e-Beam Lithography
2009
Au nanoparticles are synthesized in situ upon the electron beam exposure of a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) thin film containing Au(III). The e-beam-irradiated areas are insoluble in water (negative-tone resist), and Au-PVA nanocomposite patterns with a variable profile along the structure can be thus generated (3D lithography) in a single step. A local characterization of the generated patterns is performed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and UV-vis localized surface plasmon resonance microspectroscopy. This characterization confirms the presence of crystalline nanoparticles and aggregates.
Water-borne e-beam crosslinked nanogels as nanomaterials platform for drug delivery
2014
Polymeric and bio-hybrid nanovectors for drug delivery and imaging devices.
2014
Nanotechnology applied to the Medicine is providing new tools to the current therapeutic and diagnostic approaches to fight cancer and other diseases. However, many of the proposed nanodevices show some deficits related to both their inherent properties and performance, and the synthetic strategies proposed for their production. In the present work, a new promising approach based on e-beam radiation-induced radical crosslinking of a water soluble, biocompatible synthetic polymer has been developed. In particular, the possibility of generating Poly-N-(Vinyl- Pyrrolidone)(PVP)-based nanocarriers, i.e. nanogels with a base PVP structure, tailored physico-chemical properties (particles size dis…
3D superconducting hollow nanowires with tailored diameters grown by focused He+ beam direct writing
2020
Currently, the patterning of innovative three-dimensional (3D) nano-objects is required for the development of future advanced electronic components. Helium ion microscopy in combination with a precursor gas can be used for direct writing of three-dimensional nanostructures with a precise control of their geometry, and a significantly higher aspect ratio than other additive manufacturing technologies. We report here on the deposition of 3D hollow tungsten carbide nanowires with tailored diameters by tuning two key growth parameters, namely current and dose of the ion beam. Our results show the control of geometry in 3D hollow nanowires, with outer and inner diameters ranging from 36 to 142 …
